A new wind energy project, known as the Cornafulla Wind Farm, is being developed as a joint venture between Bord na Móna (BnM) and SSE Renewables. The proposed site is located on BnM’s landbank within Cornafulla bog.
As part of the development process, the project partners will hold a series of public consultation sessions to present details of the proposal, gather feedback, and address community concerns. These sessions aim to ensure that local residents and stakeholders are fully informed and have an opportunity to share their views.
Representatives from both companies will be available to explain the environmental studies underway, the potential number and height of wind turbines, and the anticipated benefits in terms of renewable energy output.
The developers emphasize that any future application will undergo comprehensive environmental assessments in line with planning regulations. The consultation process is a key early step to encourage transparency, community dialogue, and accountability before any formal submissions are made.
The Cornafulla Wind Farm forms part of Ireland’s wider strategy to increase renewable energy generation and support decarbonization goals by 2030. Bord na Móna continues to repurpose its landbanks for sustainable energy projects, marking a shift from peat production to renewable power generation.
“Community engagement is central to how we develop all renewable projects,” said a spokesperson for Bord na Móna.
Author’s summary: The Cornafulla Wind Farm project by Bord na Móna and SSE Renewables invites local input through public consultations before proceeding with environmental and planning assessments.
