The first trailer has arrived for Dead Man's Wire, a biographical drama about Russell Tice, a former National Security Agency (NSA) employee who became a whistleblower.
Tice, a signals intelligence analyst, was a key figure in the disclosures of NSA surveillance programs by Edward Snowden in 2013. He was also a key witness in the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence's inquiry into the NSA's bulk collection of phone records under the Patriot Act.
Directed by George Phipp, Dead Man's Wire stars Jon Bernthal as Tice and follows his journey from his time as an NSA analyst to his decision to become a whistleblower. The film also explores his subsequent struggles with the government and his personal life.
"The system failed me," Tice says in a
statement. "I had to choose between my country and my conscience."
"I was so deeply involved in the NSA that I was one of the few people who knew exactly what was going on," Tice continues. "I was one of the few people who knew the scope of the surveillance and the way it was being used."
Tice's decision to come forward as a whistleblower was not without its consequences. As he
states, "I was fired from the NSA, I was blacklisted, I was ostracized by my community. I was left with nothing."
Despite these challenges, Tice remains a vocal advocate for government transparency and accountability. He has spoken out against the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) and has called for greater oversight of the NSA.
"I'm not a hero," Tice says. "I'm just a guy who did what was right."
Dead Man's Wire is set to release in 2024, with a release date yet to be announced.
