A special weather statement and snow squall watch have been issued by Environment Canada for Guelph, Erin, and parts of southern Wellington County due to incoming winter conditions expected to intensify later this week.
Environment Canada warns that snow squalls could begin as early as Thursday, bringing heavy snowfall and strong gusty winds to the region.
In some areas, accumulations may reach up to 30 centimeters by the end of the storm, depending on wind direction and intensity.
"Snow squalls may develop Thursday and persist into the weekend, with sudden whiteouts possible due to heavy snow and blowing snow," the agency stated.
Motorists are advised to prepare for rapidly changing weather and hazardous driving conditions. Visibility could drop suddenly, especially in open rural areas.
Authorities recommend postponing non-essential travel when snow squalls are active and reducing speed if travel cannot be avoided.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates, equip vehicles with winter tires, and keep emergency kits on hand. Power outages and transportation delays are possible if wind gusts intensify through the weekend.
