Gary Lineker drops ultimate clapback at Piers Morgan

Former England striker Gary Lineker has responded to a tweet from Piers Morgan with a hilarious clapback.

The Match of the Day host was reacting to a tweet from the Good Morning Britain presenter, who had questioned why Lineker was hosting the BBC show.

Morgan tweeted: "Why is @GaryLineker still on MOTD? He's a self-serving, sanctimonious, out-of-touch millionaire who thinks he's above the game."

Lineker replied with a witty retort, saying: "I'm on MOTD because I'm good at it, not because I'm 'self-serving', 'sanctimonious' or 'out-of-touch'. And I'm not a millionaire, I'm a 'multi-millionaire with a nice house and a successful TV career'."

The two men have a long history of clashing on Twitter, and this latest exchange is just the latest in a series of public spat.

Lineker has been a regular host of MOTD since 1999, and has become known for his witty one-liners and humorous commentary.

He's also been involved in several high-profile controversies over the years, including a row with Piers Morgan in 2019 over the presenter's criticism of England players taking the knee during the World Cup.

Lineker has been a vocal supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement, and has spoken out on several occasions about the importance of diversity and inclusion in football.

But despite their differences, the former striker has maintained a good relationship with his colleagues on MOTD, and is widely respected within the industry for his professionalism and dedication to the job.

"Gary Lineker is a true broadcasting legend, and his wit and charm have made him a household name," said a source close to the show.

"He's a brilliant host and a great ambassador for the BBC, and we're lucky to have him on our team."
