WKU Men's Basketball gives up
The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers men's basketball team represents Western Kentucky University in the sport of basketball. The team competes in the Conference USA of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. The team's home games are played at E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
WKU men's basketball has a long and storied history, with 3 Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) championships and 1 Sun Belt Conference (SBC) championship. The Hilltoppers have also appeared in 3 NCAA Tournaments and 2 NIT Tournaments.
Under the leadership of head coach Rick Stansbury, the Hilltoppers have experienced a resurgence in recent years. In the 2018-2019 season, the team finished with a 29-7 overall record and a 16-2 conference record, winning the regular season championship.
In 2020, the Hilltoppers joined Conference USA, where they currently compete. The team has continued to experience success, winning the conference championship in 2021 and making an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Despite the success, the team has struggled with consistency and depth in recent years. The Hilltoppers have had to rely on younger players and have dealt with injuries to key players, which has impacted their performance on the court.
In an interview with the Bowling Green Daily News, head coach Rick Stansbury stated, "We're not where we want to be, but we're getting there. We've got a good group of guys, and we're working hard to get better."
