Chemist shop owner among three arrested in UP for running illegal slaughterhouse

LUCKNOW: In a shocking "operation", three people including a chemist shop owner were arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Lalitpur district for allegedly running an illegal slaughterhouse.

The alleged illegal slaughterhouse was busted in Jatari village under Rajapur police station area, police said.

The owner of a chemist shop in Lalitpur, Vijay Singh, 30, along with two others, were arrested on charges of running the illegal slaughterhouse, police said.

According to police, they have seized a large quantity of meat and other items related to the slaughterhouse.

Police also said that the three were running the illegal slaughterhouse for the past few months and had also been selling meat in the market.

"It was a joint operation by the local police and the SDM of Lalitpur. The three were arrested under section 5 of the UP Animal Preservation Act, 1955," said a senior police officer.

"We have also seized a large quantity of meat and other items related to the slaughterhouse," the officer added.

When asked about the motive behind running an illegal slaughterhouse, Vijay Singh, the owner of the chemist shop, said, "I was in need of money. I was not aware that running an illegal slaughterhouse was a serious crime."

Senior Superintendent of Police, Lalitpur, Dinesh Tripathi said, "We are investigating the matter and will take action accordingly."

The incident has left the residents of Jatari village in shock. "We have been living here for the past 30 years. We never thought that someone running an illegal slaughterhouse would be living in our village," said a resident.

According to the police, Vijay Singh was running the illegal slaughterhouse for the past few months and had also been selling meat in the market.

"We are investigating the matter and will take action accordingly," said Senior Superintendent of Police, Lalitpur, Dinesh Tripathi.
