Avondale official who called for ‘reverse Trump’ in city's motto faces backlash

A city official in Avondale, Arizona, is facing backlash after calling for a "reverse Trump" approach to the city's motto, which currently reads "Prospera in Unum" or "Prosper in One."

The official, Kris Burridge, made the suggestion during a recent city council meeting.

“We're going to be a city that is inclusive and that is welcoming to all people, regardless of their background or immigration status,” Burridge said.

Burridge's proposal was met with opposition from some city residents, who felt that the change would be a form of "anti-Trump" politics.

“It's a slap in the face to a lot of people who worked hard to get where they are,” said one resident.

Others, however, supported the change, arguing that it would be a positive step towards creating a more inclusive community.

“We need to be a city that welcomes everyone, regardless of who they are or where they come from,” said another resident.

Avondale Mayor Kevin Germain has not taken a stance on the proposal, saying only that it will be considered by the city council.

As for Burridge, he remains committed to his idea, saying that he hopes to create a city that is "inclusive and welcoming" to all.
