A 21-year-old Afghan-born suspect has been arrested in connection with a mass shooting in Washington, D.C. that left one person dead and five others injured.
The suspect, who has not been named, is believed to have opened fire on a group of people in the city's Columbia Heights neighborhood on Saturday evening.
According to police, the suspect had a confrontational interaction with one of the victims before the shooting occurred.
"He was acting suspiciously and was asked to leave the area, but he refused," said a police spokesperson.
Police were called to the scene at around 8:30pm and found one person dead and five others injured.
The suspect was arrested shortly after the shooting and is being held without bail.
It is not clear what motivated the suspect to carry out the attack.
However, a law enforcement source told CNN that the suspect had made threats against a person in the past.
"He had a history of making threats against someone, and we took it seriously," the source said.
"This was a senseless act of violence, and we are still trying to determine the motive behind it," said a police spokesperson.
Police are still investigating the incident and have not released any further information about the suspect or the victims.
