The right-wing media has been accused of spreading misinformation about the flow of money from Somalia to the terrorist group al-Shabaab.
A report by the Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) found that some right-wing outlets have made false claims about the amount of money being sent to al-Shabaab, as well as the methods used to transfer the funds.
"We're not saying that people are intentionally trying to deceive, but the fact is that some of these reports are just not accurate."
The report cited several examples of right-wing outlets making false claims about the flow of money to al-Shabaab, including a claim by the website Breitbart that $100 million was being sent to the group every year.
"It's not just a matter of misinformation, it's also a matter of the way that the information is presented," said a spokesperson for PIRG. "The way that some of these reports are written, they create a sense of urgency and panic that is not justified by the facts."
Right-wing media outlets have been accused of spreading misinformation about the flow of money from Somalia to the terrorist group al-Shabaab, despite a lack of evidence to support their claims.
