Opposition leader Basdeo Panday leads a mass rally in Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago
The People's National Movement (PNM) party, led by Prime Minister Patrick Manning, won 26 seats in the 2007 general election, while the United National Congress (UNC) led by Basdeo Panday, won 18 seats.
The Movement for Social Justice (MSJ), a new political party in Trinidad and Tobago, won 2 seats.

Prime Minister Manning attributed his party's success to its economic policies, saying:
“We will continue to build on the successes of the PNM administration, and continue to implement policies that have brought prosperity to our people.”
However, opposition leader Basdeo Panday disputed the results, citing irregularities in the voting process.
“We will not accept the results of this election until we are satisfied that it was free and fair,” he said.
