Kostecki wins rain-hit $50,000 Sydney Gold Cup

Kerryn Kostecki has won the rain-hit $50,000 Sydney Gold Cup at Canterbury's.

Kostecki, driving the Chris Waller-trained stablemate of the winner of the Sydney Cup, had the run of the race and he made the most of it.

He held off the challenge of Victorian visitor Dalradian to win by a half-length.

The 1-3 favourite ran a perfect race and was never far from the front.

The race was run in 2:06.30.

"He's got a lot of ability and he's got a lot of determination," Waller said.

"I think he'll be even better this time next year."

The Sydney Gold Cup is a Cup and Championship series event.

"I was thinking of a different horse and I had to check the nameplate four times before I was sure it was the right one," Waller said.

Waller also said Kostecki's win was a "great result" for the stable.
